Here at Antico, we have two authentic Italian restaurants… One in the heart of Jesmond and the other right on the seafront in Roker, Sunderland. On a day to day basis, we see a variety of people come through our doors of both restaurants; from students to families and we love to see such a mix of people! We even get the odd few people come to our restaurant because they are visiting for the first time, therefore, we have compiled some of the best things to do in both Jesmond and Sunderland this Summer! So whether you’re just visiting us for the first time or you live close to these areas, you should find something new to do this season.
Jesmond
As Jesmond was our first restaurant to open we will start with this area! The team at Antico Jesmond love being right in the centre of all the hustle and bustle of Osbourne Road. This area of Newcastle is so vibrant with a lot to offer.
Activities for Families in Jesmond
You would be surprised at the number of places in Jesmond that are suitable for families with children of all ages. Here are just a few!
Jesmond Dene
There is nothing better than visiting the picturesque Jesmond Dene on a glorious summers day. Jesmond Dene is a wonderful, historic park in the heart of suburban Newcastle. The Dene is formed from the Ouseburn’s steep-sided, wooded valley – which is a peaceful haven for residents, visitors and wildlife too. Not only is Jesmond Dene great for just having a stroll through, but they also host quite a lot of events throughout the year! So depending on when you’re around the Jesmond area, you might be lucky enough to catch one! You can also always stay up to date on these events through their website.
Pets Corner
Pets Corner is actually situated in Jesmond Dene, and it is increasingly popular amongst families with younger children. You’ll find animals of all shapes and sizes, including alpacas, pot-bellied pigs, goats and sheep alongside rabbits, colourful birds and much more! Be sure to check their website for more information and opening times!
Activities for Students in Jesmond
Besides heading along to Antico for a lovely dinner and beverage, there are many other things students can do here in Jesmond…

Bar Crawl
After a good Italian meal, there is nothing better than heading out onto Osbourne Road and visiting some of the student bars. A great student bar is called The Lonsdale, situated in West Jesmond opposite the Metro Station. With Pub Quizzes on Sundays and Thursdays, The Lonsdale is a great place to socialise with friends, and show off your general knowledge!
